Certified Banker (CB)

Certified Banker (CB) is a professional designation conferred by the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) to help banking practitioners raise their professional standards and skills in response to the rapidly changing banking environment. It also provides a widely recognised common qualification benchmark.

The Certified Banker programme is structured into three progressive levels: Advanced Diploma, Professional Diploma, and Postgraduate Diploma. Candidates may choose the appropriate diploma level based on their academic qualifications and relevant work experience.

The programme is suitable for current banking and financial practitioners who wish to deepen their industry knowledge and prepare for career advancement. It is also open to university students who wish to join the banking profession after graduation. The three-level design meets the needs of individuals with different levels of experience and skills.

Since 2021, the Macau Institute of Financial Services (IFS), the University of Macau, and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) have jointly organised the “Certified Banker (Macao)” programme. In 2026, the three parties will continue to collaborate on the programme, which will commence in July 2026 and complete in December 2026. Classes will be held at the Macau Institute of Financial Services.

Upon successful completion of the programme and passing the assessments, students will be awarded the professional qualification of “Advanced Diploma for Certified Banker (Macao)”. After fulfilling the corresponding designation requirements, students will be granted the professional title of “Certified Banker (Macao) Stage I”.

Entry Requirements:

Learners must fulfil stipulated minimum entry requirements:

• Students of Associate Degree (AD) / Higher Diploma (HD) in any disciplines; OR

• Equivalent qualifications or above; OR

• Mature applicants with 3 years of relevant banking experience with recommendations from employer.

Remarks: Mature applicants (aged 21 or above) who do not possess the above academic qualifications but with relevant banking experience and recommendation from their employers will be considered on individual merit.
